The background color is the water. The text color is the sky. Both are averages: mathematically derived from photographs taken on and around Hell Gate, New York. What you're looking at is a place, rendered as color.

Washington Irving wrote about Hell Gate as if it had a personality — irritable, unpredictable, capable of sleeping and raging within the same tide. Two centuries later, not much has changed.

An homage to the work of Icelandic artist Birgir Andrésson, who believed that color could carry memory. Andrésson worked in Pantone. Pantone wasn't an option for us, so these colors were derived from photographs and rendered in CMYK—a different language for the same idea.

Professionally printed on Hahnemühle Photo Rag, natural wood frame, with non-reflecting glass. 27 x 20 inches (3/4" frame). Archival giclée print.

Please allow 10-14 business days for packaging, shipping, and delivery.  Prints ship from the United States. International customers may be subject to import duties upon delivery.
